Home Alone sucks because it's a one-trick pony. Every joke is someone getting hit with something. There's no reason to care about the kid, especially because he keeps setting up traps for the burglars when he could easily call the police.

There's no substance or variety to it. It's just "hit someone in the head, hit someone in the nuts, push him down a flight of stairs, and impale him with something sharp." And then rinse and repeat for three more movies, all of which are terrible as well (although the second was better than the first).

And then the whole subplot with the shovel guy who turns out to be good. Who didn't see that one coming?

Did you totally ignore the rules of this subsection.....

I'll leave this comment here to show what people are NOT supposed to do.

I have not seen the movie, but in one like that I did not think I would have found it entertaining. My willing suspension of disbelief is somewhat broken in the whole "smart kid vs stupid bad guys" situation because it is cliche and overdone. Besides, as an article on cracked mentioned, that is a dangerous idea to give to kids, and cracked summed it up perfectly.

My issue isn't with suspension of disbelief, it's with the fact that the entire series relies on one type of gag.

I agree with TRF as well.

Home Alone was boring up until the traps.

Nononononono.

It was boring up until the traps, at which point it became boring AND stupid AND annoying.

I don't like to jump into the bandwagon but TRF has a point. While i do think this cliché works enough for a family with kids to enjoy. The characters are just caricatures with one dimensional tropes and they really kinda overdo the whole traps thing. Like half the movie is based on that and you'd think those criminals would have atleast the intelligence higher than that of a cucumber. Hell this whole cliché is more overdone than that whole generic pocahontas story avatar used.

Overall the movie is pretty shallow, predictable, lazy and kind off boring. But it doesn't try to be any more than that in the first place. Its just a enjoyable movie for kids that don't know better than stupid comedy.

I'll be perfectly honest, I enjoyed it the first couple of times I watched it, because I was young and young kids laugh at poop, farts, and ballshots. But then I watched it again last year and it was really bad. It's an entertaining film if you're a small child, but that doesn't make it good. And most of us here aren't small children. I mean Franko is like 9½ years old but he's the youngest. So I don't fully understand why everyone here loves it so much, unless, and this is my guess, the people here who love it haven't seen it in a long time.
